We adopted an orangutan! Mikey and I recently watched a program on t.v about orangutans, these beautiful creatures are endangered, mostly due to habitat destruction due to forest clearing for palm oil. Over 50 orangutans die each week because of this destruction. Poaching is also an issue, mothers are often killed for their babies, which are sold in the black market for pets.
So along with adopting we have also written letters to members of the Australian government, The Indonesian Minister for forestry, Indonesian Ambassador in Australia, Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Arnotts. Most palm oil is sourced illegally in Indonesia, but the government fails to do anything about it and unfortunately palm oil is contained in 40% of products in Australian supermarkets!
